Carol's Story
As I approached my 80th birthday I began to research why older Japanese seem to be so much fitter, slimmer and more mentally alert than we are.
I watched a program about Okinawa and saw an 100-year-old man riding his motor scooter. His secret was eating lots of purple things, particularly a purple sweet potato, which he loves.

I also came across the Japanese exercise program called Radio Taiso, which many Japanese do every day. It’s a short set of exercises done to music which is broadcast on the radio every day.
They do it in the park, they do it in front of their shops, they do it on the roadside with the car door open so they can hear the music!! It looked so good I thought I would love to be able to do it in a group. It was just exactly what I needed to get me out of the house a few days a week and exercising in a group! I also thought how good it would be to introduce the program to all older Australians.
Through a family contact I made some enquiries and eventually, after months of negotiating, I obtained the rights to present the program in Australia.
Meet our Presenters

How's it going, my name is Karon. I've always been involved in some form or another in keeping fit and healthy.
Taiso classes has opened up this avenue to persue a creative way to keep my passion alive.
With movement and music combined I can help you to put some perspective on a healthy lifestyle combined with heaps of fun and social interaction.
Hi my name is Andres, I am from Colombia. I have a Bachelors Degree in Sports Sciences and I have been a personal trainer for seniors for more than 6 years.
I moved to Brisbane a year ago, and I am studying English and working a s tennis coach and Taiso coach as well. In the future I want to study a Masters Degree.

I'm Martin but most people just call me Marty. I've been a Personal Trainer and owner of Vital Personal Training for 6 years now. I've always loved physical fitness and staying active and healthy, that's one of the biggest reasons that I love Taiso.
It is my deep belief that we can resolve most of our society's health problems with preventative measures such as exercise. Taiso offers an excellent option to people looking to not only maintain their strength, mobility, balance and fitness but to improve it as well.
Apart from the physical and mental benefits I also love how Taiso builds a community and another social event for people each week. I've become great friends with all of the participants and performing sessions never feels like work!
What I love about Taiso!
"I have enjoyed the classes and
feel invigorated afterwards. I have
bad arthritis (I’m 73) but the exercises
are no problem and actually help with
movement. We do some sets slowly and
then fast, which raises our heart rates.
I much prefer this program to Tai Chi." - Alison Downey
"Taiso has done wonders for my balance and general fitness. I have had two knee replacements on the same knee and it has been really good to give it some stretching. I would recommend these exercises to anyone, particularly people who are older."
- Jan Kieseker
"When I do Taiso I get the feeling of oxygen flowing through the body to the brain, unlike any other exercise regime that I do." - Margaret, Yeronga
